Hi! I'm Kate Haskins and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia.  I received my Bachelors degree in Rehabilitation and Human services  at Penn State University, followed by my Masters in Rehabilitation and clinical Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have worked in multiple areas of the mental health field and have taken from each experience a passion for exploring different techniques towards healing. I am here to meet you where you are in your healing and growth journey, and help guide you towards feeling your best possible self! My hope for clients is that they feel they can be their true authentic self and identify their full potential when working together!

I have experience working with clients with dual diagnosis that may find challenges dealing with  anxiety, depression, substance use and addiction, PTSD, and mood disorders. I also specialize in working with children and adolescents who experience behavioral and learning disorders, as well as adjustment disorders or life transitions. I have experience working in addiction medicine and helping clients identify what they would like their recovery process to look like to remain successful. I have also worked in many different settings within the community and local school system teaching and helping to develop positive coping skills, social skills, as well as navigating healthy boundaries and peer relationships with children and adolescents.I truly believe that setting boundaries and utilizing positive coping skills can go a long way for improving the way we view ourselves and self-worth.

I use a collective approach of different therapeutic theories within my practice, such as cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy ( DBT), solution focused therapy, Acceptance Commitment therapy, unconditional positive regard, person-centered therapy, strengths-based approach, motivational interviewing, as well as am trained and certified in using Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy ( EMDR) for both children and adults. I do not believe in “one technique fits all” for therapy and truly enjoy exploring all techniques with my clients to find what feels best for you and your therapeutic process. When working with me you will find that I strongly believe in building rapport with my clients and creating a safe and trusting relationship, as well as space to encourage healing.
